    Thanks for your help.
Ive now knocked this down to 3 MEG, by creating an MPEG 4 compressed 350 x 220 quicktime file, and compressing the audio (with anything).
This is running at 15 fps, with keyframes every 24 frames.
I tried reducing the colours but the results were terrible.
Some curious problems but it worked eventually.
Then put this 20 Meg file through Real Systems Producer creating a 3Meg rm file.
Its not as good quality as I hope for, nor as small as I wanted, but it'll do. The finished format isnt for the web anyway.
    So thanks for you help.
For anyone interested Ill post this up somewhere soon.

    Cheers

which file looks better the 3 meg QT MP4 or the 3 meg RM?

Why don't you leave it in MP4 I think Windows Media Player can open MP4. and most PC's have QuickTime Player anyway.

    hi there

Well the MPEG4 looks a lot better, but who is going to down load a 20 Meg file???
    I wouldnt.

Sorry my mistake above, I meant to say I created 20 MEG MPEG4 file, then reduced it even further by creating a 3 MEG RM file from that.

    Cheers

    as an update
final real player web version can be found at

    http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/~lisey/film/serpent.rm

This was created on a MAC, from DV source.
final version exported as an mpeg4 15fps 320x200
which was 20 meg. That file was then transfered to .rm format, so reduce it even more to 3MEG.

This is a part of the film Mortus Illumina - see:

Thanks for your help, and comments.
    Cheers

If you havent already check out Eddie's Animation from the link above.

I wont give away where the animation fits into Mortus Illumina but to give an insight into conception , this was the storyboard (jsut one!) that i did back in January.

And its thanks to Eddies Hard work that it has gone from that to the above link, when you see it in the context of the film it will be truely EVIL!!!!!!!

    Wink

Do not forget those of us still on 56k where even a 3M file is a bit of a pain.

176 x 132at 12 fps is a good set up and does not look too bad.

Use QuickTime or MS .wmv as these can both be presented within a web page. Real files should, but is a bit erratic. This looks better than watching the pop up player.

Also, both of the above pseudo stream, in other word they start playing as soon as enough is downloaded.

When converting set the video transfer rate at around 50k maximum, this seems to work.

To see my examples - no claims for quality of content - check link below. Most of them are DIY 8mm transfers with some Hi-8 video and Video Still on movie mode.
